Home Built Car Show

  • Brewtown 27 Blenheim Street Upper Hutt, Wellington, 5018 New Zealand (map)

The show aims to celebrate the hobby of homebuilt cars and provide others with an opportunity to view a broad selection of vehicles already built or under construction. Around 50 cars will be showcased. This show is not just for gleaming, completed cars; some of the most interesting vehicles on display will still be under construction, or scarred and worn from years of being used and enjoyed.

To most in the Hutt Valley, the heady days of car production and zero unemployment ended with the closure of the last og the Valley’s motor assembly plants, the General Motors plant in Trentham in 1990. Although mass production of cars such as Ford, Chrysler, Mitsubishi, Holden and Vauxhall has long since gone offshore, cars were still being produced in Upper Hutt, albeit on a much smaller scale, until March of this year at the Almac factory in Nicolaus St.

Inside the small Trentham factory niche cars have been in continuous production since the early 80s. Most of the cars have been of the kitset variety with a small proportion of the cars being built in house to the customer’s specifications. These and many other homebuilt cars will be featured at the Brewtown show which is being put on by the Constructors Car Club.

This is a free event. But any donations are welcome.
